Tigers Rally Again, Drop Two to Point

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Another Stillman College rally fell short Saturday as the Tigers were swept in their final Southern States Athletic Conference home weekend by Point University. After losing the first game 18-5, Stillman fought out of a 14-7 hole and lost 15-13. 

Devin Kelly led Stillman with three hits in the doubleheader, while Michael Glover, Geoff Grier and Samuel Fleming each had two hits. 

The two conference foes combined for 75 runs, 73 hits and 31 errors in the three-game weekend series.

Stillman (11-26, 5-22 SSAC) is scheduled to host Rust College for a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday at 1 p.m. for Senior Day. 


GAME 1: POINT 18, STILLMAN 5

Stillman fell behind 10-0 early in the first game of the day. Tre'en Dorsett doubled in the bottom of the third and scored on a Kelvin Reese RBI triple to center to put the Tigers on the board. However, point added two runs in the fourth inning and five in the top of the sixth inning, including a grand slam from J Robinson. 

The Tigers fought back with four runs in the bottom of the sixth in the scheduled seven-inning game. Samuel Fleming doubled in a run, before a Kobe Lewis plated one run. An error on the play allowed Fleming to score also. Griff Minor delivered a sac fly, followed by a Troy Easterling RBI double. 

Point added one last run in the seventh off an error.

Raymond Clark (1-2) picked up the loss for the Tigers, allowing nine runs, five earned, through 2.1 innings. Cody Clark, Isidro Rosario and Isaiah Hoskins also pitched. 

GAME 2: POINT 15, STILLMAN 13

The Tigers bounced back from giving up five runs in the top of the second with a four-run bottom of the second. Micahel Glover sparked the Stillman offense with a two-run home run to left field, also scoring Cameron Sipp. Tre'en Dorsett reached base on a dropped fly ball in centerfield and later scored on a throwing error by the catcher, followed by a Kobe Lewis RBI single up the middle. 

Stillman scored three more runs in the bottom of the third. Dorsett drove in the first run when he reached on an error at third. Glover scored on a wild pitch before Dorsett scored on a Devin Kelly RBI single to give Stillman a 7-6 lead. 

Point posted an eight-run top of the sixth inning to lead 14-7 and move within three runs of looking to end the game early. 

Stillman benefited from three unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, beginning with a dropped pop up at first base. Troy Easterling drove in one run in the inning and the other scored on a wild pitch. 

Two more Stillman runs scored in the bottom of the seventh to pull within three runs, 14-11. After Geoff Grier reached base, Stillman put Isidro Rosario on the base paths as a pinch runner. Rosario raced from first to third on a failed pick off wild throw that allowed Glover to score. Rosario then scored on a wild pitch, sliding head first ahead of a tag. 

Zeb Baired managed to single in an insurance run for Point in the eighth inning, while the Skyhawks held the Tigers scoreless in the bottom of the inning. Dorsett pushed across another run in the ninth when Cameron Sipp scored on a ground out double play. 

Stillman was unable to complete the comeback though, as Minor fell to 2-4 on the mound for Stillman. 

Glover hit 2-for-3 in the game with three runs scored and two RBIs to lead Stillman's offense.
