BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. - A seven-run bottom of the seventh inning was the difference Friday as Stillman College dropped Game 1 of its Southern States Athletic Conference series at Blue Mountain Christian University, 12-6.
Stillman scored first with a
Geoff Grier RBI single in the top of the first. After the Toppers took a 2-1 lead in the third inning and extended it to 3-1 in the fourth, the Tigers answered to tie the game in the top of the fifth with a
Kelvin Reese RBI double and unearned run on an error.
Samuel Fleming answered BMCU regaining the lead in the bottom of the sixth with a sac fly in the top of the seventh.
BMCU broke a 4-4 tie with a seven-run seventh off relief pitcher Caleb Schriner (0-1). Schriner allowed seven runs, three earned, off five hits in one inning of work.
Tre'en Dorsett doubled in two runs in the top of the eighth, and Blue Mountain added one more in the bottom of the eighth.
Stillman left eight runners on base through the game, while stranding 14 BMCU runners.
Dylan Speakman,
Sieas Elliott and Reese each had two hits for Stillman. The Tigers matched BMCU with 10 hits and three errors each.
Raymon Vaughn received the start on the mound for Stillman. He allowed four runs off four hits, but hit five and issued five walks.
Mason Mergenthal also pitched in the game.
Stillman (9-23, 3-19 SSAC) will return to action Saturday for the last two games against BMCU beginning at 2 p.m.
