HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Stillman College Softball closed the regular season Saturday with a 31-11 record and 15-11 in conference after a pair of losses at No. 18 William Carey University.
The Tigers were held to three hits in a 2-0 shutout by Ryanne Hornsby (21-7) in the first game. William Carey then rallied in the second game for a 6-5 win with a walk-off sacrifice fly in the seventh inning.
GAME 1: No. 18 WILLIAM CAREY 2, STILLMAN 0
Hornsby was aided by a run in the first inning and one in the fourth off
Lexi McCray (14-3), who allowed six hits in 5.1 innings of work. Jasmmine Wade closed the final two outs in the seventh inning. Carley Kidder drove in the first run on a sac fly in the first, and Susie LeBert had an RBI double in the fourth inning. Stillman's
Lauren Haskins, Karli Davidson and
Katelyn Lankford each hit 1-for-2 in the first game.
GAME 2: No. 18 WILLIAM CAREY 6, STILLMAN 5
Stillman jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning with
Taylor Roland scoring on a
Madison Bubel hit and error and
Carolyn Carter singling in Bubel. However, William Carey fought back to take a 4-2 lead in the third inning, scoring three runs off starting pitcher
Elisabeth Boso and one off
Jasmine Wade (6-3). Magan Caro's two-run single put the Crusaders in front.
The Tigers scored three runs in the fifth inning to retake the lead, 5-4.
Anniston Jones' RBI single started the rally, followed by a Carter sac fly and
Katelyn Lankford's go-ahead RBI single to right.
WCU tied the game in the bottom of the seventh when Caro reached on a bases-loaded fielder's choice that scored Dee Dee West. An Albanie Fussell sac fly to left gave Carey the walk-off victory.
Wade pitched 4.1 innings in relief, allowing three hits and three runs, but only one earned.
Bubel hit 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while Karli Davidson had two hits. Stillman out-hit the Crusaders 11 to 5 in the game, leaving nine runners on base, including the bases loaded in the second inning.
b: The Southern States Athletic Conference Softball Championships will be May 2-4 at Wilson-Morgan Park in Decatur, Alabama. Stillman will be the No. 5 seed and meet four-seed Faulkner University at noon on Thursday, May 2.
