TALLADEGA, Ala. - An early 6-3 lead was erased with one swing of the bat Saturday afternoon in a 9-8 loss for Stillman College baseball at Talladega College. The Tigers then dropped game two of the HBCU non-conference doubleheader, 15-4.
Dylan Speakman, Tre'en Dorssett and
Samuel Fleming each had three hits on the day for Stillman, while
Griff Minor and
Michael Glover had two hits apiece.
Troy Davis,
Devin Kelly and
Kelvin Reese each had one hit.
GAME 1: TALLADEGA 9, STILLMAN 8
Dylan Speakman singled to start the game and set up the Tigers' first run on a
Griff Minor single in the first inning. After Talladega took a 3-1 lead, the Tigers fought back to regain the lead in the third inning on a two-run double by
Kelvin Reese, who was then driven home by
Devin Kelly.
Troy Davis and
Samuel Fleming each added RBIs in the fourth inning to push Stillman's lead to 6-3.
Miguel Oropeza and Jahir Cruz drove in runs in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively, to cut the score to 6-5. Minor made it a two-run game in the sixth, but a Jose Santiago grand slam off
Cody Clark (3-2) gave Talladega a 9-7 lead.
Thomas Stovall walked and scored on a passed ball in the top of the seventh, but he was the only Tiger base runner in the rally.
GAME 2: TALLADEGA 15, STILLMAN 4
Michael Glover gave Stillman a 1-0 lead in the first, but Talladega scattered 14-straight runs over the next five innings. The Tigers added two runs in the sixth inning off a
Samuel Fleming double and another Glover RBI to make it 14-3. The Tornadoes picked up another home run on the day, this time from Evan Baker in the sixth inning. Glover closed out his 2-for-4 day with his third RBI in the seventh inning, a single to score
Devin Kelly.
NEXT: Stillman (13-28) is scheduled to travel to Southeastern Baptist College in Laurel, Mississippi on Tuesday for its final non-conference doubleheader at 1 p.m.
