COCHRAN, Ga. - A pair of home runs powered Stillman College baseball to a 5-0 lead in Game 1 of a Southern States Athletic Conference trip to Middle Georgia State University on Thursday, however the Tigers were unable to halt a Knights rally in the 6-5 loss before losing the second game 11-0.
After a pair of singles from
Griff Minor and
Samuel Fleming started the second inning, the Tigers loaded the bases with an error.
Troy Davis then blasted a grand slam to center to take a 4-0 lead.
Sieas Elliot stretched the lead to 5-0 with a solo homer to lead off the fourth inning.
Jaiden Duarte sparked Middle Georgia's rally in the fifth inning with a home run to left. JT Rice added a two-run double. Tiger pitcher
Raymon Vaughn exited the game in the sixth inning. Tiger reliever
Cody Clark (2-1) recorded his first loss after allowing three runs in the seventh. Ryan Wilson doubled with one out. Pinch runner Datren Bray scored on a Rice single before Brennon Williams singled in the tying run. A throwing error scored Yadiel Perez for the winning run.
The Tigers had eight hits in the first game, including two apiece from Davis and Minor.
In the second game, Stillman was held to three hits in the second game. Two came from
Kobe Lewis and
Geoff Grier collected the other. Middle Georgia took a 5-0 lead in the second inning and added a run in the third, three in the fourth and two in the fifth to run rule to Tigers.
Dylan Speakman (1-5) was charged with the loss.
Stillman (8-14, 3-11 SSAC) is scheduled to close its trip to Middle Georgia at 11 a.m. EDT Friday morning with Game 3 of the conference series.
