NEW ORLEANS - Stillman College's quest to become one of two HBCU Athletic Conference teams to sweep three games in four days during a crossover fell short Monday afternoon, as the Tigers lost to Southern University at New Orleans, 70-58. The loss snapped a seven-game win streak, including five-straight conference wins.
The Tigers were unable to capture the lead in the first half and trailed 33-26 at halftime.
Fresh off being named the HBCU Athletic Conference Defender and Newcomer of the Week,
Calvin Finch Jr. led Stillman with a double-double 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Jaylon Taylor and
Jeremiah Miller added 13 points and 12 points off the bench, respectively.
SUNO's Jamal Gibson powered the Knights with 31 points, 27 rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots. Stillman was held to 37 rebounds to SUNO's 50. Tyon Thompson added 14 points and Devin Daniels scored 11.
Stillman (7-5, 5-1 HBCUAC) will host Faulkner University on Wednesday, Dec. 18 for its final game of the fall semester at 7:30 p.m. in Birthright Alumni Hall. Tickets are $5 with the donation of a non-perishable food item for the West Alabama Food Bank.
