TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - It was a career night for
Michael Taylor and
Jaylon Taylor, but two veteran Stillman College Tigers were unable to complete Stillman's rally Wednesday in a 92-84 loss to Faulkner University.
Michael Taylor had a career-high performance, scoring 23 points in 40 minutes of action, while
Jaylon Taylor scored a career-high 21 points, and had 10 rebounds for his first double-double.
Calvin Finch, Jr. opened the game with a slam dunk to give the Tigers the first lead. However, once Faulkner took the lead, it didn't give it back. The Eagles turned a 41-32 halftime lead into an 18-point margin, 58-40. Stillman chipped away to pull within seven points, 85-78, on a Micahel Taylor 3-pointer with 1:36 to play but the Tigers were unable to close the gap against their former Southern States Athletic Conference rival.
Maliek Sadler answered Taylor's 3 by scoring six of Faulkner's last seven points to finish with 31 points, including seven 3-pointers. KJ Rogers added 25 points.
Both teams had four players score in double figures as Finch scored 14 points, and Brendan Lankford-Johnson had 12. Faulkner's Jonathan Garcia added 15 points, and Joe Webster had 12 points.
Stillman (7-6, 5-1 HBCUAC) will take a break for Christmas and return to Birthright Alumni Hall to open 2025 by hosting the HBCU Athletic Conference crossover pod on Jan. 3-4 & 6-7 with six games each day, 24 total.
