Tigers Take Down Two-Time Defending Champions

NEW ORLEANS - Stillman College knocked off the two-time defending regular season champion Tougaloo College, 88-84, in double overtime Friday night to give the East Division its only win of the day in the HBCU Athletic Conference crossover pod. The win extends Stillman's win streak to six games.
 
The Tigers trailed 10-0 to start the game but took their first lead, 13-12, on a Calvin Finch basket with 13:05 to play in the first half. Stillman ended up carrying a 30-28 lead into halftime. There were nine lead changes in the second half.
 
Trailing by six points with 1:30 to play, Joshua Price came up with a steal and basket, followed by a Jeremiah Miller steal and free throw to pull Stillman within three points. Senior guard Tyler MArtin came in clutch, draining a 3 out of a timeout to send the game into overtime, 65-65.
 
Stillman once again trailed in OT. Trailing 73-70, Calvin Finch grabbed a defensive rebound and then went on to score off a Brendan Lankford-Johnson assist and drew a foul .With 32 seconds left, he sank the free throw to tie it, 73-73, to force another overtime.
 
The final five minutes was only Stillman. Joshua Price's 3-pointer with two minutes left gave the Tigers a five-point lead. When Tougaloo tied it at 80, Miller had an offensive rebound and bucket to regain Stillman's lead with 30 seconds to play. Finch and Taylor combined to hit four free throws down the stretch.
Finch had a double-double with 24 points and 14 rebounds, While Price had 17 points. Miller had 14 points and Martin scored 11.
 
Stillman (6-4, 4-0 HBCUAC) will meet site host Dillard University on Saturday at 3 p.m.
