HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. -- Stillman College made its HBCU Athletic Conference debut Thursday night with an 85-73 win at Rust College. The win snapped Stillman's four-game non-conference skid and is the Tigers' ninth-straight win on the road over the Bearcats since returning to the NAIA in 2016-17.
Joshua Price and Calvin Finch Jr each scored 24 points, with Price draining six 3-pointers.
Brenden Lankford-Johnson and
Tyler Martin each hit three 3s and finished with 15 and 9 points, respectively.
Finch opened the game with a jumper, and Price hit a 3 on the next possession to take a 5-2 lead. It set the tone for the duo's performance through the night. Price scored 16 points in the first half to pace Stillman to a 45-34 halftime lead, while Finch scored 16 in the second half.
The game was the first time Stillman and Rust have met as conference opponents since the 1987-88 season when the two were part of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Stillman was 15-1 against Rust in non-conference action the last eight seasons.
Stillman (1-4, 1-0) will play its first home game of the season on Saturday, Nov. 16, hosting Fisk University for an HBCU Athletic Conference game at 3 p.m. in Birthright Alumni Hall. It will be the first home women's and men's basketball doubleheader for the season. Fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable and canned food items for donation to the West Alabama Food Bank.
