Tigers Fall at NCAA D2 Foe Miles College

FAIRFIELD, Ala. - Early non-conference play concluded Tuesday as Stillman College women's volleyball traveled to Miles College to face its first NCAA Division II opponent since 2015. The Tigers matched their most attacks (91) and best hitting percentage (0.55) in a three-set match this season, in a 3-0 loss to the Golden Bears, 25-12, 25-10, 25-19.

Stillman also matched its season-high for digs in a three-set match (38) but had a season-high 11 reception errors.

The Tigers took an early 4-3 lead in the first set, but a 6-0 run pushed Miles in front in its home opener. A Khadeja Bryant kill and Emily Powell service ace pulled Stillman within two points, 12-10, but Miles closed out the set with a 13-2 run. After losing the second set, Stillman fought out a five-point hole early in the third set to trail by one, 12-11. However, Miles closed the match with four-straight points despite the Tigers making it a two-point difference, 21-19, late on a Gracie Fjeldstad kill and MC attack error.

Aeraeonna Manuel led Stillman with eight kills, while Raine Patterson had seven. Katelynn Madison and Fjeldstad had eight and seven set assists, respectively. Anniston Jones led the defense with 10 digs.

Miles College was led by Kiera Washington's 19 kills and .643 hitting percentage. Malena Catala had 23 set assists and three players had double-digit digs.

Stillman (0-5) will return home to Birthright Alumni Hall this weekend to host Loyola University on Friday, Sept. 8 at 6 p.m. in the Southern States Athletic Conference season opener, followed by a SSAC match with William Carey University on Saturday at 1 p.m.
