PULASKI, Tenn. - Stillman College made its first trip to University of Tennessee Southern for a women's volleyball match in program history on Saturday. The Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) match went to the host Firehawks, 25-10, 25-17, 25-13.
After falling behind 18-4 in the first set, Stillman nearly matched the Firehawks point-for-point to close the set. The Tigers took a 3-1 in the second set with back-to-back kills by
Aeraeonna Manuel. A
Nylah Billingsley kill and UTS error worked the match even, 10-10, before the Firehawks pulled ahead for the 25-17 second-set win.
Manuel and
Raine Patterson had three kills apiece in the third set. Manuel finished with her SSAC career-high nine kills to lead Stillman, while Patterson had a SSAC career-high eight kills.
Gracie Fjeldstad led Stillman with eight digs, followed by Billingsley's seven.
Avrit Morgan and Sophia Ortega led UT-Southern with 14 and 10 kills, respectively.
Stillman (0-11, 0-5 SSAC) will return home to Birthright Alumni Hall next weekend, hosting Point University on Friday, Sept. 29 at 6 p.m. and Life University on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 1 p.m.
