MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - Game 1 of Stillman College's Southern States Athletic Conference road trip to Brewton-Parker College went to the host Barons, 10-6, Friday night.
Stillman jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a two-run, two-out home run by
Sieas Elliot in the top of the first inning, his third of the season. After the Barons tied it in the bottom of the first, Stillman regained the lead, 4-2, on a
Bobby Woodard sac fly to score
Bilal Whittle and a
Devin Kelly RBI single.
Brewton-Parker used a Jacob Mantooth RBI single and three-run home run by Tate Worrell to take a 6-4 lead in the fourth. Jack Morris then led off the bottom of the fifth with a solo shot to left that extended the Barons' lead, 7-4.
In the top of the sixth,
Kobe Lewis singled up the middle to start the inning, but was doubled off before
Kelvin Reese hit a solo home run to left, 7-5. BPC tacked on a run in the seventh to once again lead by three, 8-5.
The Barons added a run in the seventh and eighth before
Griff Minor singled in a run in the ninth with two outs. The Tigers left two on base in the ninth and six in the game.
Griff Minor and
Samuel Fleming each hit 3-for-4 to lead Stillman's offense.
Raymon Vaughn (1-3) was charged for the loss, allowing six earned runs, seven total, off six hits and three walks. He struck out three.
Tre'en Dorsett and
Mason Collins also pitched for the Tigers.
Ryan Dropson was the winning pitcher in 3.1 innings of relief.
Stillman (12-21, 1-15) will return to Brewton-Parker (14-26, 5-14) on Saturday for a doubleheader at 1 p.m. EDT.
