TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Stillman College baseball is ranked No. 3 in the first Black College Nines HBCU Small College Top 10 poll, announced March 7.
The Black College Nines Small College Top 10 poll has potential postseason implications for selection of teams to the third annual Black College World Series, May 10-13, at Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery, Alabama.
Stillman (8-6) jumped from unranked to No. 3 after an 8-0 non-conference loss. The Tigers dropped their first game Feb. 28 at Alabama A&M, which is ranked No. 4 in the Black College Nines HBCU Large School Top 10 poll.
NCAA Division II programs Albany State University (10-2) remains No. 1 where it began the season. Savannah State University (8-3) moved up one spot to No. 2. Stillman jumps Southern States Athletic Conference foe Talladega College (9-8), which opened the season No. 2 and now sits at No. 4. The 2022 Black College World Series champion Edward Waters University (9-8). Paine College, Virginia State University, Miles College, Benedict College and Bluefield State University round out the Top 10.
Jackson State University, Bethune Cookman University and Alabama State University are the top teams in the HBCU Large School poll ahead of A&M.
The poll ranks the top 10 among 35 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) small schools competing in NCAA Division II, NAIA and NCCAA. Selections are voted on by the Black College Nines HBCU Baseball Ranking Committee, made up "college athletic administrators and educators, college baseball writers and other sports journalists and broadcasters, former HBCU and other college ballplayers ... who have an interest in promoting HBCU baseball."
Stillman is set to travel to Tougaloo College (Miss.) on March 14 before opening Southern States Athletic Conference play at Loyola University on March 17-18.
The next Black College Nines rankings will be released March 21.
