Stillman Splits SSAC Doubleheader at Faulkner

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Stillman College moved to 4-4 in Southern States Athletic Conference play Saturday, splitting a doubleheader at Faulkner University. The Tigers bounced back from a 2-1 loss to take Game 2, 5-1, for the program's first known win over Faulkner.

GAME 1: FAULKNER 2, STILLMAN 1

Erika Mitchell put the Eagles on top, 1-0, with an RBI single in the third inning. Stillman worked the bases loaded in the top of the fifth and tied the game on a Bailie Seales RBI walk. However, Faulkner had similar luck in the bottom of the sixth, as Eavie Polk was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and pushed across the eventual winning run.

Carolyn Carter and Katelynn Madison had the only hits of the game for Stillman.

Lexi McCray (4-4) was hit with the loss, allowing two runs off seven hits and one walk.

GAME 2: STILLMAN 5, FAULKNER 1

The Tigers took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second after Madison Bubel single and Bailie Seales doubled to start the inning. Anniston Jones added a one-out single push in Stillman's first run, while Taylor Roland later added a two-out RBI single to right.

In the sixth inning, Lauren Haskins beat out a bunt single and stole second before taking third on a fielder's choice. Bubel hit a sac fly to center to score Haskins, 3-0.

After Faulkner added a run on a sac fly in the sixth, Stillman pushed two unearned runs in the seventh, including a Haskins sacrifice fly.

Bubel was 2-for-2 while Haskins was 2-for-3 in the game. Seales, Jones, Carolyn Carter and Roland each had one hit.

Faith Byram (6-1) recorded the win, allowing one run off four hits and three walks. She struck out two.

NEXT: Stillman (18-6, 4-4 SSAC) will host its first SSAC home games of the season next weekend, March 24-25. No. 15 William Carey University will come to town Friday for a 2 p.m. doubleheader, followed by No. 1 University of Mobile on Saturday at noon.
