COCHRAN, Ga. - Stillman College dropped a pair of Southern States Athletic Conference softball games at No. 22 Middle Georgia State University on Monday, 6-1 and 12-4.
The long ball proved to be a difference maker Monday, as Middle Georgia hit five home runs on the day and Stillman had one.
GAME 1: No. 22 MIDDLE GEORGIA 6, STILLMAN 1
Alexis Cosgrove gave Middle Georgia a 1-0 lead in the second inning with a solo home run. The Knights pushed across two more runs in the third inning and three in the fourth to lead 6-0 before
Lauren Haskins hit a solo home run in the sixth inning for Stillman. It was Haskins' second home run of the season.
Lexi McCray (4-3) allowed all six runs through three-plus innings of work. She allowed eight hits and struck out one.
Jasmine Wade and
Abby Shelby also pitched for the Tigers.
Bailie Seales and
Katelynn Lankford each had hits in the game, in addition to Haskins.
Beth Eddis (8-1) recorded the win for MGA, allowing three hits and one walk. She struck out three.
GAME 2: No. 22 MIDDLE GEORGIA 12, STILLMAN 4
Stillman took a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
Lauren Haskins was hit by a pitch and stole a base, her 21st of the season, to move into scoring position. A
Madison Bubel single put the Tigers on top.
Middle Georgia evened the score in the bottom of the first and took a 2-1 lead in the second on a home run by L Heath. It was 3-1 Knights after three before Stillman retook the lead, 4-3 after a
Katelynn Madison RBI double and two-run double by Haskins in the fourth inning.
However, the Knights relied on three home runs in the fifth inning to produce seven runs and bust the game open. Emma Raulerson and Georgia Bice each had three run home runs to bookend a solo shot by Logan Blizzard. A two-run double by Summer Lawrence in the sixth ended the game early.
Faith Byram (5-1) allowed six runs off 11 hits as she took her first loss of the season.
Abby Shelby and
Elisabeth Boso also pitched.
Madisyn Riggins (4-0) recorded the complete-game win for MGA, allowing seven hits and three walks.
Madison and
Brooklyn Pennington each had two hits for Stillman, while Haskins was 1-for-2. Bubel and
Anniston Jones each hit 1-for-3.
NEXT: Stillman's conference doubleheader with Talladega College on Friday, March 17 has been canceled. The Tigers (13-5, 1-3 SSAC) will travel to Montgomery, Alabama on Saturday, March 18 to play Faulkner University at 2 p.m.
