MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Stillman College's women's basketball season came to a close Thursday night, falling to Brewton-Parker College, 55-45, in the Southern States Athletic Conference Championship quarterfinals at the Multiplex at Cramton Bowl.
The Tigers (16-13) broke out to a 13-6 lead in the first quarter. Brewton-Parker pushed ahead 24-21 at the half after a layup by Sy-Marieona Williams and Tajahnae Wiggins' 3-pointer in the final minute of the second quarter. Stillman kept it close in the third quarter, with
Amaria Strong hitting a 3 to pull the Tigers within a basket, 37-35, at the end of the third.
BPC out-scored Stillman 19-10 in the fourth quarter.
Farrah Pearson led Stillman with 11 points and 11 rebounds, while
Laneja Warner and
Alexandria Haymon each scored eight points.
Williams scored 14 in the first half and finished with 27 points to lead the Barons. Madison Evans scored 12 points and Angel McRae had 13 rebounds.
It was the first neutral court loss of the season for Stillman, which opened the year 6-0, including neutral court wins over Florida Memorial and sixth-ranked Southeastern.
Three Tigers averaged double figures for Stillman through the season. Warner and Pearson each averaged 10.8 points, and JaMesha King averaged 10.2 points.
Third-seed Brewton-Parker will meet No. 2 Faulkner in the SSAC semifinals on Friday at 5 p.m.
