TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Twelve Tigers logged points Tuesday night as Stillman College cruised past Oakwood University, 72-43, in women's basketball non-conference action at Birthright Alumni Hall. The win moved the Tigers to 2-1 against Gulf Coast Athletic Conference foes and 5-3 overall on the season.
Thaniyah Marks paced Stillman with an 11-point, six-rebound night, while 40 points were scored off the bench with seven players scoring six points or more.
Stillman steadily built its lead throughout the game, hitting double figures, 21-10, on a fastbreak layup by
Jamariah Turner after a steal by Marks. Two minutes later, another steal by Marks set up a
JaMesha King layup to lead by 15 points. A Marks rebound off a King block set up a 3 by Turner for Stillman's largest lead of the first half, 30-13.
Kashara Preston and
Raena Suggs each hit 3s midway in the third quarter to push the Tigers past 20 points, 44-22, as part of a 13-0 run. With 3:15 left in the game,
Jordine Moody grabbed a rebound and went coast-to-coast, juking through the paint for a fastbreak layup that gave Stilman a 30-point lead, 68-38, and brought the crowd to its feet. The largest lead of the game was 32 points, 70-38, on a
KeAsia McKinney layup with 1:16 left.
Stillman (6-3) will now host No. 25 Rust College (8-1) in non-conference action next Tuesday, Dec. 12 at 5:30 p.m. in Birthright Alumni Hall.
