TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - A 19-0 start grew to a 74-42 victory over Voorhees University for Stillman College women's basketball over Voorhees University in the 2023-2024 home opener Monday night in Birthright Alumni Hall. The win moves Stillman to 3-0 for the third-straight season. It is the first known time in program history for the program to open three consecutive seasons with a 3-0 record.
Farrah Pearson and
Alexandria Haymon each recorded their first double-doubles of the season to lead Stillman, pacing the host Tigers' rebounding performance of 53-34 over the visiting Tigers. Nine Stillman players scored and nine Stillman players grabbed rebounds in the game.
Haymon led all players with 16 points and had 11 rebounds. Pearson led on the glass with 13 rebounds, including 10 in the first half, and finished with 13 points.
Jamariah Turner also scored 13 points for Stillman.
Every stats category belonged to Stillman, who scored 26 points off turnovers, 29 second-chance points, 38 points in the paint and 43 off the bench. In addition to a +19 advantage in rebounds, Stillman had eight more steals and nine less turnovers than Voorhees.
Pearson and Turner paced Stillman's 19-0 run out of the jump with Pearson scoring seven and Turner hitting a pair of threes in the first seven minutes. It was 21-4 after the first quarter.
Voorhees (0-2) woke up in the second quarter, out-scoring Stillman 13-11, but the blue and gold Tigers held pace to lead 32-17 at the half. Stillman's lead grew to 21 points, 52-31, late in the third quarter. Stillman closed the game with a 22-9 fourth quarter, including an 8-0 run in the final four minutes of action.
Thaniyah Marks followed the double-digit scorers with nine points, while JaMesha king had seven points, nine rebounds and two blocked shots.
Zayniah Snow led Voorhees with 12 points, while Hallia Carl had 11 rebounds for the visiting Tigers from South Carolina.
Stillman (3-0) will travel to Rust College on Monday, Nov. 13 for a 5:30 p.m. tip in Holly Springs, Mississippi. The Tigers were originally scheduled to travel to Oakwood University on Saturday, Nov. 11, but the game has been rescheduled for Feb. 5.
