HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Stillman College cruised to an 83-62 road win Saturday night at Oakwood University in Ashby Auditorium. Four plays scored in double digits to pace the Tigers (1-2) to their first win of the season.
Maurice Havey felt at home in a Gulf Coast Athletic Conference gym, scoring Stillman's first five points of the game.
Khalil Johnson followed with a 3-pointer to lead 8-0. Harvey, a transfer from GCAC foe Wiley College, led Stillman with 16 points.
Marcus Bates Jr also scored 16.
Oakwood got no closer than six points, 10-4, before Stillman grew its lead to 14 points, 28-14, on a
Brenden Lankford-Johnson layup. Stillman led 37-25 at the half. In his Tiger debut,
Justin Minter hit a 3-pointer with a minute left in the game to give Stillman its largest lead of the season, 21 points, 83-62. Minter finished with eight points and five assists. Lankford-Johnson had 14 points for Stillman, while
Bailey Talley had 10 points and Johnson scored eight.
Brian Williams scored 20 points to lead Oakwood.
The Tigers shot 53.1% from the floor and 58.3% from 3-point range. On the glass, Stillman out-rebounded the Ambassadors 34-29. Stillman also established a presence in the paint, scoring 50 points and allowing 30 points from inside the lane.
Stillman (1-2) will continue its road trip against GCAC members, traveling to Rust College in Holly Springs, Mississippi on Monday, Nov. 13.
