MOBILE, Ala. - Stillman College's hope of salvaging a season split against the University of Mobile was dashed Tuesday night, as the Tigers fell to the Rams, 79-63.
There were four early lead changes before Stillman built an 11-3 run to lead by six points, 23-17, with eight minutes left in the first half.
Devin Merriweather scored six points and dished one assist during the run. While Mobile managed to regain the lead, 28-27, on a Corien Pooh Frazier 3-pointer, Stillman used a 7-0 run to regain the lead. A
Derrick Finklea 3-pointer in the final minute of the first half gave Stillman a 37-35 lead entering halftime.
Mobile and Stillman tied the game five times in the first six minutes of the second half before the Rams built a 14-5 run to lead by nine, 59-50, with 8:26 left. With 3:23 left, Stillman trailed by 14 points, 70-56. It was the second-straight road trip the Tigers found themselves down by 14.
Sage McKenna scored 21 points and had 10 rebounds to lead four Rams players in double-digit scoring. DaMariee Jones scored 19. Pooh Frazier finished with 15 points, as did Ezra McKenna, who also had 11 rebounds.
Stillman (13-10, 9-6 SSAC) will return home to Tuscaloosa this weekend to host Middle Georgia State University (9-11, 5-9) on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 2 p.m. in Birthright Alumni Hall. The Tigers currently sit in fifth position in the SSAC standings with five games to play.
