Stillman Falls in OT to Blue Mountain

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - A traveling call in the final 10 seconds gave Blue Mountain Christian University the last possession, as Stillman College lost 73-72 in overtime Saturday afternoon.

Charmen Taylor hit the game-winner for the Toppers with 1.1 left on the clock after Carissa Horton pulled BMCU within a point with 12 seconds left.

Stillman held a narrow lead most of the overtime period, which was forced by a Charmen Taylor layup to make it 64-64 with a little over a minute to play in regulation.

There were seven lead changes in the first 12 minutes of the game before BMCU went on to lead by eight points at halftime, 38-30.

Stillman rallied in the third quarter to tie the game at 45 on a pair of 3-pointers by Warner. Farrah Pearson gave Stillman its first lead of the second half, 47-45. Stillman went on to lead by as many as six points in the third quarter, 53-47.

The Tigers led by seven points, 57-50, early in the fourth quarter, but BMCU put together an 8-0 run to take the lead, 58-50, on a 3-pointer by Carissa Horton. It was the only Blue Mountain lead of the fourth quarter though, as Laneja Warner hit a pair of free throws, followed by an Alexandria Haymon to put Stillman back in front. Stillman was not able to create a higher margin than two points though in the final five minutes of the quarter.

While the Tigers out-rebounded BMCU, 49-40, led by Jamesha King's 15 boards, the Tigers shot only 31.6% from the floor.

Warner led all players with 19 points, while Strong posted a double-double 16 points and 10 rebounds to go with four assists. Pearson scored 11.

Charmen Taylor led Blue Mountain with 18 points. Carmen Taylor added 15, Horton finished with 12 and Crystin Guy scored 11.

Stillman (12-7, 4-6) will host a mid-week non-conference game on Wednesday, Jan. 25 at 5:30 p.m. when Miles College comes to town. It will be the first meeting between the former NCAA Division II Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) foes since Feb. 15, 2016.
