Stillman Takes Care of Blue Mountain, 90-68

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Stillman College men's basketball improved to 12-8 on the season with a 90-68 win over Blue Mountain Christian University on Saturday. The win moves the Tigers to 8-4 in Southern States Athletic Conference action.

Stillman shot 59.6% for the game and out-rebounded the Toppers 26-24.

Khalil Johnson paced the Tigers with 25 points, hitting seven 3-pointers. He also had four rebounds.

Tomias Brand came off the bench to score 17 points, while guards Devin Merriweather and Derrick Finklea scored 11 and 10 points respectively. Finklea added six assists, giving him 26 points and 17 assists for the week.

Marcus Bates Jr gave Stillman its first lead, 14-12, with 14:23 to play in the game. It was a three-point game with six minutes to play in the first half, but Stillman closed the half on a 17-11 run to lead 40-31 at halftime.

Stillman's first double-digit lead came on a Johnson 3-pointer with 12:46 to play, 55-44. He hit another jumper on the next possession to go up by 13. Jamar Jackson later hit a pair of free throws to extend Stillman's lead to 20 points, 72-52, with 7:28 remaining. Michael Taylor's jump shot with 28 seconds left gave Stillman its largest lead of the day at 22 points.

 
JaMarcus Clark led Blue Mountain with 21 points.

Stillman will now travel to Dalton State College on Tuesday, Jan. 24 for a SSAC game. It's one of three SSAC games on the schedule Tuesday, as Faulkner University travels to Brewton-Parker College and Loyola University plays at William Carey University.
