TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - It was a full on blitz in Birthright Alumni Hall on Thursday night, as Stillman College dominated Life University, 102-60. The 42-point margin is the Tigers' largest in a conference game since joining the Southern States Athletic Conference, and the Tigers' largest margin over a conference foe in any conference since 2006.
The game started with a steady counter attack from both teams, but after Life cut the Tigers' early lead to 8-6, Stillman out-paced the Running Eagles, 26-10, to the 10-minute mark in the first half. Stillman hit the gas in the final eight minutes, out-scoring Life, 27-4, to lead 68-28 at the half.
Stillman shot 66.7% through the first half, while holding the Running Eagles to 30.8%. The Tigers drained 11 3-pointers on 73.3% from the arc, including five first-half 3s from
Daviyon Dennis, who led all players with 15 points at the break. Dennis later hit a 3-pointer to push the score to 100 and finish the night with a team-best 18 points.
Jordan Bell scored 15 for Stillman in 19 minutes, while
Derrick Finklea added 14 points, five assists, four rebounds and two blocks before exiting the game early in the second half. Bates scored 10 and
Jamar Jackson finished with nine.
Bailey Talley led the Tigers on the boards with 11 rebounds, as Stillman out-rebounded Life, 41-20.
Stillman (10-7, 6-3) holds steady in second place in the SSAC, tied with NAIA No. 19 Faulkner University (14-3, 6-3). The Tigers travel to New Orleans this weekend to challenge the defending NAIA national champions Loyola University (13-2, 8-0, NAIA No. 22) on Saturday at 2 p.m.
