Box Score TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Stillman Tigers (16-13, 10-3 HBCUAC) found themselves on the wrong side of a rout against NCAA D-II Morehouse College on Tuesday afternoon.
The Maroon Tigers struck fast and early, posting four runs in the first and second innings to put Stillman in an eight-run hole.
Tory Huddleston reached on a dropped fly ball by the right fielder to get on base, and he then advanced to second on the error.
With a runner in scoring position, a groundout by
John Roland moved Huddleston to third, putting the first run of the game for the Tigers 90 feet away.
Davion Wilkins came up and knocked a grounder to second, but a throwing error by the second baseman brought Huddleston across to score. Next,
Jonathan Phillips drew a walk before a double play ended the inning.
Morehouse responded in a big way, continuing to make contact on Stillman pitchers, posting five runs in the next two innings.
After a line out to begin the bottom of the fourth for the Tigers, Huddleston cracked a double into left. Then, following a foul out by Roland, Wilkins hammered a two-run shot into right center to tack on a pair of runs.
Later in the sixth inning,
Robert Gage was hit by a pitch to put one on for Stillman, then, pinch-hitting for Huddleston,
Cameron Sipp hit a double to left, bringing home Gage. Next, another fielding error by the Maroon Tiger infield plated Sipp.
That would be the final run of the game for Stillman as Morehouse added five more runs and kept the Tigers off the board in the seventh for the run rule victory.
Stillman will return to HBCUAC action as they take on Voorhees at home for a weekend series starting with a doubleheader beginning at 12:00p.m. on Friday, April 10th.
