TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Stillman College Tigers (13-12, 7-3 HBCUAC) earned their second complete game shutout this season with a dominant 13-0 win over NCAA D-II Miles College on Tuesday at Tiger Field.
Following a quick inning from starter Zack Munger, the Tigers started things off with a walk from Kameran Belser, then back-to-back singles from Kane Shellhouse and Robert Gage loaded the bases with no outs.
Tory Huddleston was next to the plate and was hit by a pitch to bring home the first run of the game. Next, John Roland hit a sacrifice fly to left, plating Shellhouse. After a double steal and a walk juiced the bases again, Davion Wilkins hit one into left field, driving in a pair of runs.
With the game broken open, Stillman kept their foot on the pedal as Daniel Salter knocked one down the right field line to bring home Phillps. Then Gavin Rehorn reached after the first baseman booted a groundball, bringing home the sixth run of the inning.
Back at the top of the order, Belser grounded out to second but scored Wilkins, then Shellhouse snuck a single through the right side to plate the eighth and final run of the inning.
Miles led off the second with a single into center, but a 5-4-3 double play and a strikeout ended the rally in its tracks. Both teams went scoreless for the next inning and a half, until the bottom of the third.
Wilkins got hit by a pitch to begin the inning for the Tigers, then he stole second to get into scoring position with one out. After a walk and a hit by pitch loaded the bases again, Shellhouse grounded out to first but brought home a run. Next, Huddleston got one through the left side, bringing home a pair of runs, but Huddleston was thrown out advancing to third to end the frame.
Meanwhile, Munger continued to deal on the mound, holding the Golden Bears to just two hits in the final four innings as they kept Miles off the board for the shutout victory.
The win marks the first time Stillman has run ruled an NCAA D-II opponent since 2018 and marks their first home win over the Golden Bears since 2016. It is also their first shutout of Miles since 2015.
Additionally, this is the largest victory over the Golden Bears since 2012, where they beat Miles 16-0 at home.
Munger scattered four hits through seven innings with a walk and five strikeouts.
Shellhouse and Wilkins led the bats for the Tigers, both finishing with a pair of hits and two RBI. Salter and Gage both had a couple of hits. And Rehorn and Huddleston also earned a couple of RBI.
Stillman returns to HBCUAC play this weekend, traveling to Wilberforce University for a three-game series beginning with a doubleheader on Friday starting at 12:00p.m.
