TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Stillman College baseball team erupted for 17 hits, but timely hitting for the University of Mobile Rams enabled the visitors to collect a 16-14 win over the Tigers Tuesday evening at Tiger Field.
After Mobile moved ahead with two runs in the first, Stillman responded in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single from
Cameron Sipp, knocking in
Robert Gage.
The Tigers later erupted for five runs in the second to take a 6-2 lead.
Gavin Rehorn drew a bases-loaded walk, and
Jonathan Phillips came in to score.
Kameran Belser followed suit with another bases-loaded walk, bringing in
Davion Wilkins. Mehka Hicks singled to centerfield for two RBIs, while Belser and KJ Mitchell scored.
The Rams answered with four runs in the third to cut the lead, but a sacrifice fly from Hicks helped Mitchell score and keep the lead at 7-6 for the Tigers.
Stillman's lead did not hold in the fourth, as Mobile scored a pair of runs to take an 8-7 lead. However, the Tigers posted another big inning with four runs in the fourth to go up 11-8. Wilkins smacked a single up the middle for two RBIs when Phillips and Sipp scored. Belser used a sacrifice fly to center field to help Wilkins score, and Mitchell touched home on a wild pitch to end the big inning.
Mobile added a run in the fifth to cut the lead to 11-9, and the Rams later scored two runs in the seventh, another in the eighth, and then one more in the ninth to recapture a 13-11 lead.
For Stillman in the ninth, Gage drew a walk and later scored from a Phillips single up the middle.
Collin DuBose, pinch running for Tory Huddleson, scored to tie the game, 13-13, and force extra innings after a Wilkins single to right.
Then in the 10th, the Rams added a run and pushed ahead 14-13. Rehorn reached on a single in the 10th, advanced to second, and later scored on a Gage single to right field for another tie, this time at 14-14.
The Rams posted two runs in the 11th to take a 16-14 lead. Stillman loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning, but couldn't scratch a run across and took a hard-luck loss at home.
Hicks and Wilkins each posted three RBIs in the loss.
John Roland pitched two innings with a pair of strikeouts and two earned runs.
Zack Munger tossed three innings with two earned runs;
Bobby Woodard appeared in three innings with a strikeout and two earned runs;
Caleb Vallejo went 1.2 innings with two earned runs; and
Justice Baldwin wrapped the game in 1.1 innings of work.

The Tigers are off until March 3. On that Tuesday, Stillman will take on an NCAA Division I opponent in the Alabama A&M University Bulldogs, starting at 1 p.m. in Huntsville, Alabama.
