TOUGALOO, Miss. – The Stillman College baseball team fell behind early but showed some grit, defeating the Tougaloo College Bulldogs 11-9 Saturday afternoon in HBCU Athletic Conference competition.
Samuel Fleming led the way at the plate after he went 3-for-5 with four RBIs and a home run.
Griff Minor posted a 2-for-4 effort with two RBIs and a double.
Davion Wilkins finished 2-for-5 wth a double and an RBI.
Devin Kelly and
Mekha Hicks both received three walks.
Michael Moses,
Elijah Anderson and Hicks each stole a base.
Caleb Schreiner earned the win in relief with 2.1 innings pitched and three strikeouts.
Raymon Vaughn picked up the save and retired all three batters he faced.
Gavin Rehorn pitched 2.2 innings with three strikeouts.
Caleb Vallejo followed with 1.2 innings of work with a strikeout.
Jaxon Pearson went 1.1 innings and posted three strikeouts.
The Bulldogs opened scoring with three runs in the bottom of the first inning.
It wasn't until the top of the third inning when Hicks and
Kobe Lewis scored to get the Tigers on the board but down 3-2.
Tougaloo extended the lead to 6-2 with two runs in the third and another in the fourth inning.
Lewis and Minor crossed home in the fifth on Fleming's homer to make it 6-5; however, Matt Jones scored for the hosting Bulldogs to go back up 7-5.
The Tigers used the sixth inning to tie the contest when Moses and Hicks scored, followed by Kelly scoring on an error at second base to move the score to 8-7.
The Bulldogs scored two more runs in the sixth to reclaim the lead at 9-8.
However, from there it was all Stillman with
Thedrick Harris scoring on a Wilkins double to tie the game in the eighth. Then in the ninth, Hicks scored to give the Tigers the lead, followed by sacrifice fly from Harris to bring Kelly home to go up 11-9 which held as the final.
Stillman College returns to action at noon on April 26 for senior day at Tiger Field against Southeastern Baptist College.
