Men’s Basketball Rally Falls Short against Top-Seeded LSUA

ALEXANDRIA, La. – The Stillman College men's basketball team put together a stellar second half against the #1 Seed Louisiana State University-Alexandria Generals, but the Tigers ran out of gas in an 83-76 loss in the NAIA National Tournament Opening Rounds Friday night.

The loss ends the season for the Tigers, who compiled an 18-12 record during the season.

LSUA opened on a 7-0 run before Calvin Finch Jr. scored the first two of his 20-point effort on the night. The Generals built an 11-point lead with 13:02 on the clock when EJ McQuillan hit a three to go up 21-10. 

Stillman College battled back to cut the lead to just two points after a three-ball from Micheal Taylor to move the score to 25-23 with 8:18 to go. However, LSUA put on a 15-4 run to close the first half as the Tigers trailed 40-29 going to the locker room. 

The Generals maintained a double-digit lead until 9:20 in the second half, where Joshua Price nailed a three-pointer to cut the lead to 60-52. The Tigers then put together a 15-7 run over the next four minutes of action to tie the game 67-67 after a pair of free throws from Jeremiah Miller

With 3:45 to go, the Tigers and Generals were even at 72-72. Unfortunately, LSUA pushed ahead on an 11-4 run down the stretch to clinch the 83-76 win and eliminate Stillman from the postseason. 

Notes and Numbers:
-Alongside his 20 points, Calvin Finch Jr. posted a double-double with 11 rebounds and added two blocks.
-Michael Taylor finished as the leading scorer with 21 points, six assists and three steals.
-Joshua Price also reached double figures with 11 points. 
-The Tigers finished 35.3 percent (6-of-17) from three and 45.6 percent (26-of-57) from the floor.
