Tigers Lose Game 1 to UT Southern

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Six runs was not enough Thursday, as Stillman College baseball fell 21-6 to the University of Tennessee Southern in game one of a Southern States Athletic Conference series at Tiger Field. The next two games will be played Sunday in a noon doubleheader.

UT Southern had its first batter reach base every inning, producing runs all except in the top of the sixth inning.

Trailing 8-0, Samuel Fleming singled to start the bottom of the second inning. Troy Davis and Kobe Lewis were each hit by a pitch to load the bases. Tre'en Dorsett then tripled to left-center field to score three runs and make it a five-run game, 8-3. Both teams scored two runs in the third inning. A Geoff Grier walk and Fleming single set up a two-run Davis single to keep it a five-run game, 10-5.

However, the Firehawks scored seven in the top of the fourth and three more in the fifth inning.

Trailing 21-5 entering the bottom of the seventh, Stillman received a leadoff double by Josh Wilson, who later scored on a Fleming groundout.

Raymond Vaughn (2-3) was charged with the loss.
