THOMASVILLE, Ga. - Stillman College held off a late rally by Thomas University for a 14-13 Southern States Athletic Conference victory Friday evening to split day one of its SSAC road trip to Georgia. The Tigers were shut out in the first game, 7-0.
Raymon Vaughn pitched six innings, allowing only three runs off four hits when he exited the game with a 14-3 lead Friday evening. The Tigers were poised for a run-rule victory in the nightcap, but the Nighthawks lived up to their name with a 10-0 rally.
Raymond Clark entered the game in the bottom of the eighth and closed the final 1.2 innings to earn his first save of the season, allowing one run in the ninth. He struck out the third out to leave two Thomas runners in scoring position, including the winning run on second base.
Offensively, Stillman received multiple hits from five Tigers in the second game.
Kobe Lewis led Stillman with three hits, including a two-run home run in the top of the sixth, which proved to be the game-winning hit. It was Lewis' second homer of the week.
Troy Davis also hit a two-run HR in the fourth inning that gave Stillman an 8-1 lead at the time. Davis had two hits and three runs scored in the game.Â
Minor and Elliott had the only hits in Game 1 as Stillman was held to two hits in the shutout.
Stillman (6-6, 1-4 SSAC) will meet Thomas in the series rubber match Saturday at 1 p.m. ET.
