Stillman Drops Game 3 Against No. 7 Mobile

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Stillman College was unable to steal a win from No. 7 University of Mobile in the Southern States Athletic Conference baseball series finale Thursday, falling 16-4 in eight innings.

Mason Collins drove in the Tigers' first run in the bottom of the first to answer the Rams' 3-0 start. Mobile then scored one in each the second and third innings, before adding three in the fourth and one in the fifth to lead 9-1.

Bilal Whittle and Devin Kelly singled to start the bottom of the fifth inning and moved into scoring position with a double steal. A passed ball brought Whittle home before Sieas Elliott singled to right to score Kelly, 9-3.

Mobile tacked on another run in the sixth and added three in the seventh to position itself for a 13-3 run rule victory. However, Whittle once again singled to start the eighth, followed by a Kelly double and RBI groundout by Cole Odom to extend the game.

A two-run home run by Sam Bowman down the left field line in the top of the eighth proved to be the difference though. The Rams added another run on a wild pitch. Samuel Fleming started the bottom of the eight with a single for the Tigers, but a double play ended the game.

Whittle was 3-for-3 to lead Stillman in the game. On the weekend he hit 4-for-5 with two walks and was hit once, scoring a total of five times. Kelly had two hits Thursday, giving him six hits for the week.

Steven Oates (2-5) took the loss, allowing eight runs, seven earned, through four innings. He struck out four. Cody Clark and Bobby Woodard each had two strikeouts in relief.

Samual Plash led Mobile with a 3-for-3 day at the plate and four RBIs, including a solo home run and a sacrifice fly. Trey Watson earned his first win of the season, pitching the fifth inning for the Rams. Trevor Wells closed out the last three innings on the mound for Mobile to earn his second save.

Stillman (11-20, 1-14 SSAC) will host the University of Tennessee Southern in non-conference action on Tuesday, April 11 at 1 p.m. before traveling to Brewton-Parker College on April 14-15.
