Sixth-Inning Rallies Cost Stillman Pair of Games

LAUREL, Miss. - Stillman College dropped a pair of non-conference games Tuesday, as Southeastern Baptist College put together a pair of four-run, sixth-inning rallies for 7-3 and 8-4 wins over the Tigers.

Led by Geoff Grier's four hits on the day, Stillman out-hit the Chargers 16-15 in the two games, but allowed nine unearned runs.

The doubleheader was the start of a eight-game, 14-day road swing through Mississippi, Louisiana and Tennessee.

GAME 1: SBC 7, STILLMAN 3

Griff Minor tagged and scored on a Samuel Fleming sac fly to give Stillman a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Southeastern Baptist capitalized on a pair of Stillman errors in the bottom of the inning to take a 2-1 lead. The score remained 2-1 until the Chargers doubled in a run in the bottom of the fifth, 3-1.

Stillman fought back to tie the game, 3-3, in the top of the sixth. Mason Collins reached on a one-out single, followed by hits from Fleming and Tre'en Dorsett to load the bases with one out. TJ Davis hit a sac fly to score courtesy runner Varrick Lawrence, before Fleming stole home while Dorsett was caught in a rundown.

A hit batter and double put the first two Chargers in scoring position in the bottom of the sixth. A pair of singles helped push across three runs and another unearned run later scored on a wild pitch.

Dorsett and Devin Kelly both hit 2-for-3 to lead the Tigers in the game.

Deuntre Dunklin was charged with the loss in relief.

GAME 2: SBC 8, STILLMAN 5

Geoff Grier doubled with the bases loaded to give Stillman a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth inning. He went on to score on an error to put the Tigers up 4-2. Grier hit 3-for-3 in the game.

Southeastern Baptist scored an unearned run in each the second, third and fourth innings. Cole Eckhoff doubled in the tying run in the fifth inning. Will LaRocca was hit by a pitch to lead off the bottom of the sixth inning and scored the go-ahead run on a Cody Farr single to right. A passed ball and two errors on a failed pick off attempt led to three more Charger runs, putting the Tigers behind, 8-4.

Tiger starter Isidro Jimenez allowed four runs, but only one earned, off six hits and a walk. Raul Polanco (0-1) was charged with the loss, allowing four runs, one earned, off two hits and a walk in the sixth inning.

Neal Hillman recorded the win for Southeastern Baptist.

NEXT: Stillman (8-6) will return to Mississippi next Tuesday to play Tougaloo College on March 14.
