Stillman College Sweeps Rust College

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Stillman College baseball completed its third doubleheader sweep of the season Tuesday, handing Rust College losses of 10-4 and 10-6 in non-conference action at Tiger Field.

The wins moved Stillman to 6-0 for the first time in known program history.

The pair of 10-run games marks the fifth time in six games Stillman has scored 10 or more runs. Through six games, the Tigers have produced 89 runs and allowed 29 with 18 earned.

GAME 1: STILLMAN 10, RUST 4

Rust College catcher Jalen Thomas hit a home run to left field on the first pitch of the game off Griff Minor. However, Minor settled in to retire the next three batters, including two strikeouts. Minor went on to pitch a complete game, allowing six hits, only two earned runs, and striking out eight.

Stillman took the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the first on a two-ount, two-run single up the middle by Samuel Fleming. Fleming added a sac fly RBI in the third inning to score Geoff Grier, who singled to start the inning.

The Tigers' 3-1 lead grew to 7-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning. Stillman batted around in the inning, with Kelvin Reese drawing a leadoff walk before scoring on a Cole Odom single to left. Grier and Minor each singled in runs in the inning and Troy Davis added a sac fly RBI.

Rust attempted to rally with three runs in the fifth, but Minor got a strikeout to get out of the inning.

Grier and Minor both drove in runs in the fifth and Reese added an RBI in the sixth to cap the Tigers' scoring.

Fleming and Grier each hit 3-for-3 in the game with three and two RBI respectively. Minor hit 2-for-2 with two RBI and a walk.

GAME 2: STILLMAN 10, RUST 6

Stillman bounced back from an early 1-0 hole to take the lead on a Devin Kelly two-run single in the bottom of the first. A wild pitch and two-run double by TJ Blackmon helped clear the bases for Stillman in the second inning as the Tigers went up 5-1.

Rust fought back with a three-run third inning and then a sac fly by Thomas in the fourth tied the game. Hayes Brown pitched his way out of the jam in the fourth and Stillman regained the lead, 8-5, in the bottom half of the inning on a three-run home run to left by Grier.

Both teams traded runs in the fifth before Kelly capped the day with an RBI single in the sixth.

Tre'en Dorsett closed the last three innings for his first save of the season, allowing one run off two hits, a walk and two hit batters. Brown allowed an unearned run off two hits through 1.1 innings to get the win.

Raymon Vaughn had the start, allowing four runs, two unearned, off three hits and three walks. He struck out four.
