COLUMBIA, S.C. | In a quest to earn a pair of 3-peat SIAC Tennis Championships, the Stillman College Lady Tigers tennis team succeeded while the men's team was defeated in the championship match.
The Lady Tigers defeated Benedict College, 5-1. Stillman was victorious in all three doubles matches with the pairings of Veronika Kalugina/Maria Andreeva, Viktoria Izakova/Angela Corredor, and Carolina Barabas/Nair Tolomeo. The Stillman men's team (17-10, 11-6) saw a nine-match winning streak come to an end to Benedict College in the championship match, 5-2. The loss also ended the quest for a pair of 3-peat championships. Stillman picked up one win in doubles action with Joan Sanson/Fernando Garcia-Heredia winning 8-5. Yonwaba Pupuma (No. 3) won the only singles match of the day, 6-4, 6-3.
Stillman will now await the NCAA selection to determine play into the NCAA South Region where the Lady Tigers were the No. 8 seed last week and have earned the automatic bid by claiming the SIAC title.
